"The Wolf Within" Modern Retelling of Little Red Riding Hood

We wanted to take a story familiar to most and subvert expectations by applying it to modern and relatable conditions. Since the typical Vanderbilt student may not live in daily fear of a wolf attack, we chose to use the wolf as a metaphor for a more common evil: anxiety. We depict our protagonist, Riley, as a college student under overwhelming stress from her coursework trying to balance academics with a social life. In moments where her anxiety is drawing her away from reality, the camera angles, visual cues (symbolic shadows), and audio cues resemble darker themes. She fights to stay grounded and escape her intrusive thoughts telling her that things are worse than they appear. The darkness grows stronger as she slowly struggles to begin losing this battle. Musical themes are also used symbolically in the storytelling. This was created for a German Fairytales final project, and therefore was not edited perfectly, but still conveys a powerful message.
